Pack of 8 Postcards
Pack of 8 Postcards
A set of 8 postcards based on the hand-painted wallpapers of the Royal Pavilion, available in three colourways.
Queen Victoria's Bedroom
A set of postcards based on the yellow-ground export wallpaper in Queen Victoria's Bedroom, made in c.1800. The hand-painted wallpaper, featuring Chinese birds, flowers and butterflies, was removed from the Royal Pavilion and sent to Buckingham Palace in 1847, and parts of it were returned in 1938. Between 2017 and 2020 it was carefully conserved and restored, and re-installed in Queen Victoria's Bedroom, its original place in the building.
William IV Room
A set of postcards based on the beautiful late eighteenth century Chinese export wallpaper from the William IV Room in the Royal Pavilion. The current wallpaper was hand-painted by our former conservators Roy Bradley, Derek Smith and Gordon Grant in the 1970s. It is based on fragments of a light-ground Chinese paper that is believed to have been hung in this room in the early nineteenth century.
Long Gallery
A set of postcards inspired by the wallpaper in the Royal Pavilion's Long Gallery, also known as the Chinese Corridor. The paper was designed by Frederick Crace in c.1815 and was likely inspired by Chinese ceramics. It is hand-painted in a light blue distemper colour on handmade paper. The pink background colour is called peach blossom in the Royal Pavilion account books.
